Universal Struggle

For the past two weeks, I have had the opportunity to spend time in Zimbabwe working with Partners for Africa. While I was there, I was able to participate in a men's seminar where we were able to preach and encourage a group of about 35 preachers. At one point, we had a question and answer time to help the preachers with issues they were dealing with and how to handle them better. What was interesting to me was that each case they brought up was no different than the situations that many of us in American congregations deal with.

It reminded me of this: No matter where we live, whether on the continent of Africa or the United States, we all have a big problem called SIN. It's always knocking at our door, and if we yield to it more and more, eventually, it will captivate us and control our lives! James 1:14 tells us that our desires tempt us. Isaiah 59:1-2 shows us that our sins have separated us from God. Today I want you to consider your life and see what you have allowed to gain control of your heart. Maybe there are some desires that we would do well to let go of so that we can pattern our life more after God.

The passion that these men had for the word of God and his people was motivating in my life, and I pray that their love will also become ours. That we will care more and more for the people we interact with and how we can be better prepared to fight the temptations of sin in our life!
