The Next 15 Minutes: Back to the Future
I love the “Back to the Future” movies. I can watch them anytime. I feel the suspense every time I watch the movie franchise. I know the outcome but I still get caught up in the characters and their anxiety while messing with the space time continuum. Sometimes it is tempting to think about how much good one could do if able to actually enter a time machine. Could I somehow stop broad scale atrocities from happening? Maybe but I’m more selfish. I’m more concerned with making my life better. I mean everyone loves Marty and he didn’t go stop Nazi’s from coming to power, he had to make sure his dad didn’t goof up again. I might do something similar. Maybe I could keep my button from getting ripped off my pants and them falling down during that intramural flag football game at Freed-Hardeman. You know the important things. I think without a doubt I’d go back and some how figure out how to keep my parents from getting a divorce. Unfortunately, unless my time machine has “Jedi mind trick” capabilities, I probably wouldn’t be very successful. You see I don’t have any control over people. Certainly changing their mind takes more than a time machine and/or a social media post. What does have an effect is what we do in the “here and now”. Life hurts and will continue to do so but we all have choices in the “here and now” that can (and will) effect others. The “here and now” might not be as exciting as the movie “Back to the Future” but it is more important! Jesus wants us to practice the Golden Rule “here and now” because everyone is going through something. We may know their struggles and we may not but as a believer I know how the story ends. God wins and because of his love, I can win in the long term too. I don’t need a time machine to change the future. I need an attitude of gratitude and passing it on. For the next 15 minutes let your “attitude of gratitude” be contagious!
